Sage

a cloudy warm & muggy car commute

you’re singing with the CD playing oh

my sweet Lafayette Lucinda Williams

sparks your memory job interview

that Cajun drummer had the hots for you

//   & now out back bra off & beer in hand

you see that iris swaying like a spider

in the purple dusk   //   so many dusks

in front of you, you grab another beer

write Mom kept Dad’s leash awfully tight two beers

a night, your penmanship has gone to crap

oh what the hell a sexist lexicon

//   you worry that the intern you misgendered

by mistake today will tell HR

a long career of kindness balances

accounts in heaven surely here   //   you check

the bowtie pasta it’s al dente toss

in herbs & wilted greens show them who’s boss
