Bourbon is Still My Drug of Choice

I drink to paradise and death, and the lie of love. Charles Bukowski

I wander through the liquor store

like a Beverly Hills housewife roams

Rodeo Dr. shopping for just the right look

like a bookworm pursues the stacks

in pursuit of the perfect book

re-exploring well-known territory

examining every beautiful bottle

every tint and every hue

from ever-clear to darkest amber

burgundies and even blue

lustrous liquid elixirs

to numb the brain

extinguish the flame

kill the pain

scientifically speaking

my investigations have

yet to yield fruit

but the research continues,

through trial and error

I will continue my pursuit

until I find the magical

concoction that

either kills me...

or allows me to forget

that I still love you
