Let's Tell Brooksie Off

In the long run, of course,

it’ll do him good, believe me.

Make him that much stronger,

so he can readily endure

The slings and various insults,

awaiting him in the future.

Face it, he’s just too soft—

fairly weak around the middle,

and he’ll pay the price,

no matter how much we love him.

Sure, he’ll feel betrayed, at first.

Think we’ve sold him out,

for some other new friend.

But, in due time, then,

he’ll grow the thick skin

needed to flourish on his own,

And thank us one day—

even buy the crew dinner,

a round of stiff drinks, as well.

Seems the least we can do

to honor his good name.

Respect the trust he has in us.

Make certain he’s fit for success.
