Not Giving Up

I have not Given Up on the a-holes

because I have been one myself

or rather

had a moment when I did something

understandably identifiable by others

as thoughtless

I either did it without thinking

or was thinking incorrectly

But we are all works in progress

and I am no exception

so if no one else gives me a break

about those "a-hole moments" of mine

I will

and do

That’s I suppose how I grew up

and continue to do so to this day

Not Giving Up

So I apply the guideline of

Do-Unto-Others-As-I-Would-They-Do-Unto-Me

And since I’d like others to give me a break

I give them a break

Today a-holes go by other names

and initials

one set of which

if it were a word

you could call an acronym

They promote meanness

which is the opposite of growing up

the opposite of being a good person

yet incredibly talk about themselves at times

as if they were good people though

you know

that deep inside

they know

what they are

and what they are not

For some reason, it seems, they have

Given Up.

I am not allowed to humor them however

because Silence is Complicity

and Denial is Conspiracy

so I call meanness

meanness

and the lynch mob

a lynch mob

and occasionally one of them sees the light

and suddenly says “You’re right!

There was a noose!”

or blurts out

“You’re right, that’s just plain meanness, pure and simple.”

Some have eventually thanked me

for Not Giving Up

on them.

Since a few have seen that light

I keep telling the truth to the many

in hope that even one more will

Because the reach of the Holy Spirit

starts with a single candle flame

that lights another

and another

and so on

That Way the whole world

seemingly headed for the orange-head-promised blood bath

may

one day

instead be

bathed

in light

And that is why

I

Am

Not Giving Up.
