Underdogs

There are not a lot of applicants waiting to get in.

But we know who we are.

Late-bloomers, underachievers, wallflowers,

eccentrics, geeks, and dorks.

Large, visible chips on shoulders, backs, and in our heads.

Maladjusted misfits, much maligned and always underestimated.

Irresistible forces that can never be stopped by immovable objects.

We have IEPs, ADD, OCD, a diagnosis, and meds.

Origins of dysfunctional families, fractured families and no families,

living in brains, hearts, and minds, not in the world of rejection.

Greatly flawed and broken, and that is our superpower,

our identity, art, and creative drive.

We can do the impossible.

We are impossible.
